What Are CEREC Same-Day Crowns?

Crowns are hollow, tooth-shaped prostheses that are made from durable materials such as porcelain. With a crown, you can cover up a damaged or broken tooth. The crown “caps” the tooth to restore your smile and protect the remaining enamel from further damage or decay.

With CEREC, Dr. Frye and our team can create porcelain crowns right in our office. Our CEREC machine uses CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design/Manufacturing) technology to carve a dental crown out of a solid block of tooth-colored porcelain. The result is a strong, durable, lifelike restoration that can be designed, built, and placed in a single visit to Frye Dental Group.

The Benefits Of CEREC

Same-Day Treatment

Traditional dental crowns require at least two visits, as well as a 2-3 week waiting period while an outside dental lab builds your crown. With CEREC, there’s no need to wait around. You can get a new tooth in a single appointment, which is great for patients with busy schedules.

Avoid Temporary Crowns

Lab-made crowns also require you to wear a temporary plastic crown while you wait for your permanent crown to arrive. These can be bulky and uncomfortable, and may even fall out of your mouth in some cases. But with CEREC, there’s no need for temporary crowns. You’ll walk out of our office with a permanent, brand-new tooth.

No Messy Impressions

Some patients find putty-based impressions uncomfortable and can cause gags. Not to worry! With CEREC, Dr. Frye uses a touch-free scanner to take a 3D image of your mouth and craft your crown. No messy impressions are required!

Natural, Lifelike Results

We use the latest digital design tools, CEREC milling machines, and advanced materials to create dental crowns that look and feel completely natural. Your new tooth will fit perfectly into your smile!

The CEREC Treatment Process

1. Preparing Your Tooth

To begin your appointment, Dr. Frye will clean and numb your mouth. Then, he’ll use a dental drill to remove any decayed or damaged enamel from your tooth and shape it into a stable platform for your new crown.

2. Taking A Digital Impression

After preparing your tooth, Dr. Frye will use a handheld scanner to create a 3D image of the inside of your mouth. Then, he will upload this 3D scan into our CEREC software suite.

3. Designing Your Crown

Next, Dr. Frye will use your 3D scan to create a custom-built CEREC crown that will fit into your mouth perfectly. Once he’s finished, he will send the crown design to our in-office CEREC milling machine.

4. Crafting Your New Tooth

Before crafting your crown, Dr. Frye will choose a tooth-colored block of porcelain that matches your other teeth perfectly. Then, he will load it into our CEREC milling machine and start it up. In just a few minutes, the CEREC machine will cut your crown out of the porcelain block.

5. Final Crown Placement

Once your crown is finished, one of our team members will retrieve it and bring it back to your operating room. Dr. Frye will check the fit of the crown to make sure it’s perfect, and make any minor adjustments if necessary. Then, he’ll bond your new crown to your tooth permanently. All in all, the process of getting a CEREC crown usually takes about two hours.
